What is This Calculator?

This is a lighthearted length converter that turns an everyday measurement into a handful of well-known novelty units used in pop culture and internet humor, purely for fun and easy visualization.

How It Works

Your length is first converted into meters, then divided by the accepted approximate length of each novelty unit: a Smoot (1.7018 m, based on MIT student Oliver Smoot’s height, used to measure the Harvard Bridge), a banana (commonly approximated at 17.78 cm for scale comparisons), an American football field (91.44 m, 100 yards), and an average giraffe height (about 4.6 m).

  • Smoots = meters ÷ 1.7018
  • Bananas = meters ÷ 0.1778
  • Football Fields = meters ÷ 91.44
