When home pregnancy tests work best
Home pregnancy tests detect the hormone hCG, which is only produced after implantation. Testing too early can produce a false negative simply because hCG has not yet reached a detectable level, so timing matters.
How this calculator works
Enter the first day of your last period and your average cycle length. The calculator estimates your ovulation date (assuming a typical 14-day luteal phase), then projects an early possible test date about 10 days after ovulation for sensitive tests, and a more reliable test date on the day your period would be due, when hCG levels are more consistently detectable.
