๐Ÿงช PPM to mg/L Converter

Convert parts per million (ppm) to milligrams per liter (mg/L), commonly used for water quality, chemistry, and concentration measurements.

What This Calculator Does

This tool converts a concentration given in parts per million (ppm) into milligrams per liter (mg/L), a common conversion in water quality testing, chemistry, and environmental science.

The Formula

For a solution with density close to that of water, mg/L = ppm × density (g/mL), since 1 ppm = 1 mg per kg of solution, and 1 kg of water occupies almost exactly 1 liter. For dilute aqueous solutions (density ≈ 1 g/mL), mg/L and ppm are numerically the same value.

Important Caveat

This equivalence only holds accurately for dilute solutions where the solvent is water or a liquid with density near 1 g/mL. For denser or more concentrated solutions, the density adjustment becomes important, which is why this calculator includes a density field. This tool is intended for general educational and planning purposes, not for regulatory or laboratory-certified reporting.
