How the scaling works

This calculator starts from a classic base recipe that makes about 8 medium pancakes: roughly 190g flour, 300ml milk, 1 egg, 13g sugar, 42g melted butter, 3.5 teaspoons baking powder and a pinch of salt. It then scales every ingredient by the ratio between the batch you want and that base batch, adjusting further for pancake size since larger pancakes use more batter each.

Why size matters as much as count

A dozen small silver-dollar pancakes can use less batter than half a dozen large ones, so this tool weights your requested count by a size multiplier (small, medium or large) before scaling the recipe, rather than treating every pancake as equal.

  • Base recipe: about 8 medium pancakes
  • Small pancakes use roughly 60% as much batter each as a medium one
  • Large pancakes use roughly 150% as much batter each as a medium one

Actual yield will vary with your pan size, batter thickness and cooking technique; use these amounts as a practical starting point for home cooking and educational purposes.
