Why grams don’t convert to tablespoons the same way for every ingredient

A tablespoon is a unit of volume, while a gram is a unit of weight. How much a tablespoon of an ingredient weighs depends on how dense that ingredient is — a tablespoon of honey weighs much more than a tablespoon of flour. This calculator uses typical density values for common cooking and baking ingredients to give a realistic estimate.

How it works

The calculator divides your gram weight by the ingredient’s density (grams per milliliter) to get a volume in milliliters, then converts that volume into tablespoons (1 tablespoon ≈ 14.79 ml).

Note: Densities can vary with how an ingredient is packed, sifted, or measured, so treat results as a close estimate rather than an exact lab measurement. For best baking accuracy, a kitchen scale is still the most precise option.
