What is a DIN setting?

DIN refers to the release force setting on ski bindings, which determines how much force is needed before the binding releases your boot in a fall. It is based on a German industrial standard (ISO 11088) that combines skier weight, height, age, boot sole length, and skiing ability into a single number.

How this estimate is calculated

This calculator follows the standard DIN chart method: your weight and height are each converted to a reference code, averaged together, then adjusted up or down based on your age and self-rated skier type (cautious, average, or aggressive). The result is looked up on the standard DIN release-value scale.

This is an estimate for general reference only. Ski binding settings should always be verified and adjusted by a certified ski shop technician using calibrated equipment — incorrect settings can increase injury risk.
