How the cost is calculated

This calculator divides the price of a pack by the number of cigarettes it contains to get a per-cigarette cost, then multiplies that by how many cigarettes you smoke per day. From there it scales up to monthly (using an average of 30.44 days per month), yearly, and 10-year totals.

Why it adds up

Small daily habits compound quickly: even a pack-a-day habit at a moderate price can total thousands of dollars a year, and tens of thousands over a decade, before accounting for related healthcare costs.
