BRI Calculator — Body Roundness Index

Calculate your Body Roundness Index (BRI), a newer measurement that uses waist circumference and height to estimate body shape and visceral fat risk.

What BRI measures

Body Roundness Index (BRI) is a measurement that estimates body shape, specifically how ’round’ versus how ‘lean’ a body is, using only waist circumference and height. It was designed as a way to better estimate visceral (abdominal) fat and related health risk than BMI, since BMI cannot account for where fat is distributed.

How this calculator works

Enter your waist circumference and height. The calculator treats your waist as the circumference of a circle to estimate its radius, compares that to half your height, and plugs the result into the standard BRI formula: 364.2 minus 365.5 times the square root of one minus the squared ratio of waist-radius to half-height. Higher BRI scores generally indicate a more centrally rounded body shape and, on average, higher associated health risk.

BRI is a relatively recent measurement and the risk bands shown here are simplified general guidance, not individualized medical thresholds. This tool is for general educational and planning purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
