How sock sizing works
Sock sizes are traditionally based on foot length and are numbered slightly differently from shoe sizes, which is why a size 9 shoe doesn’t always mean a size 9 sock.
The formula
This calculator uses the common industry approximation of Sock Size = Shoe Size + 1.5 for men’s sizing and + 1 for women’s sizing, and separately estimates foot length in inches from shoe size using standard shoe-sizing scale relationships. It also converts to a common S/M/L/XL sock label and an approximate EU (Paris point) sock size.
Sock sizing often uses stretchy ‘one size fits most’ ranges in practice, so these figures are a helpful general guide rather than an exact fit guarantee — always check the specific brand’s packaging when precision matters. For general reference purposes only.
