What this calculator does

A classic snowman is built from three stacked snowballs of decreasing size. This calculator works out the total snow volume one snowman needs, then figures out how many complete snowmen you can build from the snow you have.

How the calculation works

Each snowball is treated as a sphere, and sphere volume is V = (4/3) × π × r³, using half the diameter as the radius. The three sphere volumes are added together and converted from cubic inches to cubic feet (dividing by 1,728). The number of snowmen equals your available snow volume divided by the snow needed per snowman, rounded down.

This is a fun, simplified estimate for general planning — it doesn’t account for packing density or snow lost while shaping each ball.
