What this calculator does
This tool produces an illustrative engagement score for a volunteer, combining how many hours they give each month, how often they show up to events, and how long they’ve been involved, into one easy-to-read index from 0 to 100.
How the calculation works
A raw score is built by weighting monthly hours, monthly events, and years of tenure, then that raw score is compressed onto a 0-100 scale using a diminishing-returns curve, so early involvement raises the score quickly while very high activity levels approach, but never quite reach, 100. The score is then grouped into four illustrative tiers from Getting Started to Super Volunteer.
This is a simple, transparent illustrative index for general organizational use, not a validated psychological or statistical instrument — organizations should adapt the weights to match what matters most to their own program.
