Raised Bed Soil Calculator
Figure out exactly how much soil you need to fill your raised garden bed, in cubic feet, cubic yards, and standard bags.
What this calculator does
A raised bed’s soil volume is simply length times width times depth. This calculator converts your bed’s dimensions into cubic feet and cubic yards, then estimates how many bagged soil products you’d need to fill it.
How the math works
The calculator multiplies bed length by width (both in feet) by depth (converted from inches to feet) to get cubic feet, the standard unit soil and compost are sold in. It divides that by 27 to get cubic yards, which is how bulk soil delivery is usually priced, and divides by your chosen bag size to estimate bags needed, rounding up so you don’t come up short.
Tip: many gardeners blend soil with compost and other amendments, so treat this as your total volume target rather than a single-product shopping list. This tool is for general garden planning purposes.
