How plug-in hybrid economy works
A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) can drive on battery power alone for a limited electric range, then switches to its gasoline engine for the remaining distance. Daily running cost therefore depends on how your daily mileage compares to that electric range.
How this calculator works
The calculator splits your daily miles into an electric portion (up to your electric-only range) and a gasoline portion (any remaining distance). It estimates electricity used per mile from your battery capacity divided by electric range, then prices each portion using your local electricity and gasoline prices. It also compares this to what a comparable gasoline-only car at the same mpg would cost, to estimate potential savings.
This is a simplified planning estimate; real-world efficiency varies with driving style, terrain, weather, and charging habits.
