What is maximum drawdown?
Maximum drawdown (MDD) measures the largest observed loss from a peak to a subsequent low point in an investment’s value, before a new peak is reached. It’s a widely used measure of downside risk.
The formula
Maximum Drawdown = (Trough Value − Peak Value) / Peak Value × 100. The result is expressed as a negative percentage representing the worst observed decline over the period being examined.
