What save percentage measures

Save percentage is one of the most common stats for evaluating goalkeepers in sports like hockey and soccer. It shows what fraction of shots on goal a goalie successfully stops, making it easy to compare goalies who face different numbers of shots.

The formulas

Save percentage = (shots faced – goals allowed) / shots faced, usually shown as a decimal like .910 in hockey or a percentage in soccer. Goals-against average (GAA) = (goals allowed x 60) / minutes played, which standardizes goals allowed to a per-60-minute rate regardless of how long the goalie played.

This calculator is for general stat tracking and educational purposes for players, coaches, and fans.
