🍼 Exclusive Pumping Calculator
Estimate your baby’s daily milk needs and how many pumping sessions it typically takes to meet them when exclusively pumping.
How daily milk needs are estimated
A commonly used estimate for full-term infants is about 2.5 ounces of breast milk per pound of body weight per day (roughly 150 mL per kilogram per day), typically leveling off around one to two months of age. This calculator converts the baby’s weight to pounds and applies that estimate: Daily Ounces = Weight in Pounds x 2.5.
Estimating pumping sessions
Dividing the estimated daily milk need by your average output per pumping session gives a rough idea of how many sessions per day may be needed to keep up with demand. Many exclusively pumping parents aim for 6-8 sessions per day, especially in the early months, since output per session and total supply can vary widely between individuals.
