What is an alcohol unit?
In the UK, one unit of alcohol is defined as 10ml (or 8g) of pure ethanol. Units let you compare drinks of very different sizes and strengths on the same scale, since a small strong drink can contain more alcohol than a large weak one.
The formula
Units are calculated as: Units = (Volume in ml × %ABV) ÷ 1000. For example, a 175ml glass of 13% wine contains 175 × 13 ÷ 1000 = 2.28 units.

- Multiply by how many drinks you have to get a session or weekly total
