What this calculator does
This tool calculates the tonnage (weight in US tons) of a bulk material based on the volume of an area you need to fill and the material’s density.
The formula
Volume = length × width × depth (in feet). Weight = volume × density. Tons = weight ÷ 2000 lb. Common densities range from about 90 to 110 lb/ft³ for sand and gravel, up to 165 lb/ft³ or more for dense stone.
Always confirm the specific density of your material with the supplier, since moisture content and compaction can shift real-world weight noticeably.
