Swimming Calorie Calculator
Choose your swimming stroke and effort level, enter your weight and duration, and see your estimated calorie burn.
What this calculator does
The Swimming Calorie Calculator estimates how many calories you burn during a swim session based on your stroke, body weight, and duration.
How the calculation works
Each stroke and effort level is assigned a standard MET (metabolic equivalent of task) value from the widely used Compendium of Physical Activities. Calories per minute are then calculated as kcal/min = MET x 3.5 x weight (kg) / 200, and multiplied by your session duration for the total estimate.
Butterfly and breaststroke tend to burn the most calories per minute due to their higher energy demand, while leisurely swimming burns considerably less. This is an estimate for general fitness planning purposes; actual burn varies with technique, water temperature, and individual fitness level.
