How punch force is estimated

A punch’s force comes from the impulse-momentum relationship in physics: force equals the change in momentum divided by the time over which the impact occurs. This calculator uses the effective mass moving behind the punch (not full body weight, since only part of the body’s mass transfers into the strike), its speed at impact, and the brief impact duration.

The formula

Force (N) = (mass x speed) / impact time. A shorter impact time (a sharper, more rigid strike) produces a much higher peak force for the same mass and speed, which is why technique and follow-through matter as much as raw speed.

This is a simplified physics estimate for general and educational interest — real punch biomechanics involve rotational forces, whole-body kinetic chains, and target compliance that this basic model does not capture.
