How Jump Rope Calorie Burn Is Estimated

Jumping rope is a high-intensity, whole-body cardio exercise. Its calorie cost is estimated using MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values from the Compendium of Physical Activities, which vary with how fast you skip: slower paces (under 100 skips per minute) sit around MET 8.8, moderate paces around MET 11.8, and fast paces (over 120 skips per minute) around MET 12.3.

The Formula

Calories Burned = MET × 3.5 × Body Weight (kg) / 200 × Duration (minutes). This standard formula scales a MET value and your body weight over the length of your session to estimate total energy expenditure.

Notes on Accuracy

Actual burn varies with jump rope technique, rest breaks, and fitness level, so use this as a general workout-planning estimate rather than an exact measurement.
