What a DIN setting is
The DIN setting on a ski binding controls how much force is needed for the binding to release your boot in a fall, balancing protection against unwanted injury with avoiding accidental releases during normal skiing. It’s based on the ISO 11088 method used throughout the ski industry, which combines your weight, height, age, boot sole length, and self-assessed skier type (how cautiously or aggressively you ski).
How this calculator works

The calculator applies the standard weight-based scaling, adjusts for skier type, height, and boot length relative to a typical value for your height, and applies the standard reduction used for younger and older skiers under Type I/II.
