What this calculator does

This tool converts network and internet connection speeds between megabits per second (Mbps) and gigabits per second (Gbps), the units used to advertise broadband, fiber, and network hardware speeds.

How the calculation works

A gigabit equals 1,000 megabits, so converting Mbps to Gbps divides by 1,000, and converting Gbps to Mbps multiplies by 1,000. Note that bits (used for speed) are different from bytes (used for file sizes) – there are 8 bits in a byte, so download speeds in MB/s are roughly one eighth of the Mbps figure.

This tool is intended for general reference and educational use.
