💧 IV Flow Rate Calculator

Calculate the intravenous infusion flow rate in mL per hour from a total volume and infusion time, useful for setting up an infusion pump.

How IV flow rate is calculated

Intravenous (IV) flow rate is the speed at which fluid is delivered into a vein, usually expressed in milliliters per hour (mL/hr) so it can be programmed directly into an infusion pump. The standard formula is: Flow Rate (mL/hr) = Total Volume (mL) ÷ Total Time (hours).

How to use this calculator

Enter the total volume of fluid to be infused and the planned infusion time in hours (plus any extra minutes). The calculator divides the volume by the time to give you the flow rate in both mL per hour and mL per minute.

Note: This calculator is provided for general educational and reference purposes. Always confirm infusion settings against a prescribed order and facility protocol.
