What is exit rate?

Exit rate is a web analytics metric that shows the percentage of all pageviews on a specific page that were the last page in the visitor’s session.

The formula

Exit Rate = (Number of Exits from Page / Total Pageviews for Page) × 100. Unlike bounce rate (which only counts single-page sessions), exit rate counts a page as an exit any time it was the last page viewed, even in a longer multi-page session.

A high exit rate isn’t automatically bad — it depends on the page’s purpose (e.g. a “thank you” or checkout-confirmation page is expected to have a high exit rate).
