🐾 Dog Life Expectancy Calculator

Estimate your dog’s average life expectancy and roughly how many years they may have left, based on adult size and current age.

What affects dog lifespan

A dog’s expected lifespan is most strongly linked to adult body size: smaller breeds tend to live noticeably longer than giant breeds. Toy and small dogs (under 20 lb) commonly average around 15 years, medium dogs (20-50 lb) around 13 years, large dogs (50-90 lb) around 11 years, and giant breeds (over 90 lb) around 9 years.

How this calculator works

Select your dog’s adult size category and enter their current age. The calculator subtracts current age from the average life expectancy for that size class to estimate years remaining, and shows what percentage of the average lifespan has already been lived.

These are population averages only. Genetics, breed-specific health risks, diet, and veterinary care all meaningfully affect an individual dog’s actual lifespan. This tool is for general educational purposes and is not a health prediction.
