How the calculation works
One therm equals 100,000 BTU of energy. Natural gas has an actual heating value that varies slightly by region and supply, typically averaging around 1.037 therms per CCF, though your utility bill states the exact factor for your area. The calculator multiplies your CCF usage by the heating value factor (adjustable, defaulting to the common industry average) to estimate the therms used.
