Cat Age Calculator
Enter your cat’s age to estimate its equivalent age in human years using a commonly cited veterinary approximation.
What this calculator does
This tool estimates how old your cat would be in equivalent human years, using a widely cited veterinary approximation rather than a simple multiply-by-seven rule that does not reflect how cats actually age.
How the math works
A cat’s first year of life is treated as roughly 15 human years, reflecting rapid growth from kitten to young adult, and the second year adds about 9 more human years as the cat reaches full maturity. After age two, each additional cat year adds about 4 human years, since aging slows and becomes more gradual once a cat reaches adulthood.
Good to know
This is a commonly used approximation for general educational and planning purposes, and individual cats can age differently depending on breed, indoor or outdoor lifestyle, and overall health. For specific health or aging concerns about your pet, consult a veterinarian.
