Bread Spreads Calculator (Calories & Servings)
Pick a common spread, enter how much you use per slice and how many slices, and see the total calories and fat for your snack or meal.
How this calculator works
This tool multiplies a standard calorie and fat density (per 100g, from general USDA-style nutrition averages) for a chosen spread by the amount you actually use per slice and the number of slices you eat. Spreads like butter, margarine and olive oil are calorie-dense fats, while jam and honey are mostly sugar with little or no fat.
Why amounts matter so much
A thin scrape of butter (around 5g) adds roughly 35 calories, while a generous tablespoon (around 15g) can add over 100 calories per slice. Because spreads are used in small amounts but are calorie-dense, small changes in portion size have an outsized effect on total intake.
- 1 teaspoon of most spreads is roughly 5g
- 1 tablespoon is roughly 14-15g
- Nut butters and oils add unsaturated fat; butter and margarine are higher in saturated fat
