What This Calculator Does
This calculator determines the mortality rate (and corresponding survival rate) for a group of animals, a key metric used in livestock, poultry, and aquaculture management.
The Formula
Mortality rate is calculated as (Number of deaths / Population at risk) × 100. The population at risk should be the number of animals present at the start of the period being measured (for example, the flock size at the beginning of a production cycle).
- Enter the number of animals that died during the period.
- Enter the total population present at risk during that period.
This is a general planning and record-keeping calculation for educational purposes. For herd or flock health decisions, unusually high mortality rates should be investigated with the help of a veterinarian or animal health professional.
