Feed Conversion Ratio Calculator
Calculate feed conversion ratio (FCR) and feed efficiency from total feed intake and weight gain.
What This Calculator Does
Feed conversion ratio (FCR) is a standard measure of how efficiently animals convert feed into body weight, widely used in poultry, livestock, and aquaculture production.
The Formula
FCR is calculated as Total feed intake (kg) / Total weight gain (kg). A lower FCR means an animal gains more weight per unit of feed (more efficient), while a higher FCR means more feed is required per unit of weight gained (less efficient). Feed efficiency, shown as a percentage, is simply the inverse of FCR.
- Feed intake should be the total feed consumed by the animal or group over a given period.
- Weight gain should be the total body weight gained over that same period.
This is a general production and planning calculation for educational purposes. Typical FCR values vary widely by species, breed, and production system, so compare results against benchmarks relevant to your specific operation.
