The physics behind it
Ignoring air resistance, a projectile’s horizontal velocity stays constant, while its vertical velocity grows due to gravity. This calculator finds the vertical velocity at impact using energy conservation: vy(impact) = √(vy0² + 2g·h), where h is the launch height above the landing surface. The angle of impact is then the arctangent of vertical speed over horizontal speed.
When the launch height is zero, the impact angle equals the launch angle, matching the classic symmetric projectile-motion result.
