What is dividend yield?
Dividend yield shows how much a company pays out in dividends each year relative to its share price, expressed as a percentage. It’s a quick way to compare the income return of different dividend-paying stocks.
How this calculator works
The formula is straightforward: Dividend Yield = (Annual Dividend Per Share ÷ Current Share Price) × 100. For example, a stock paying $2.00 per year with a $50.00 share price has a 4% dividend yield.
- Dividend yield moves inversely with share price — if the price falls and the dividend stays the same, the yield rises.
- A very high yield can sometimes signal financial trouble at the company rather than a great deal, so it’s worth checking the underlying business.
