What This Calculator Does

This tool finds the molarity of a solution — the concentration of a dissolved substance (solute) expressed in moles per liter (mol/L, also written as M). It’s one of the most common calculations in chemistry labs and classrooms.

The Formula

Molarity is calculated in two steps. First, the mass of solute is converted to moles using its molar mass: moles = mass ÷ molar mass. Then molarity is found by dividing moles by the solution’s total volume in liters: Molarity (M) = moles of solute ÷ liters of solution.
