Solving for the required interest rate

Sometimes you know how much you’re starting with, how much you want to end up with, and how long you have — and you want to know what rate of return you’d need. This calculator solves the compound interest formula for the rate.

The formula

Rate = n × ((Future Value / Present Value)^(1 / (n × years)) − 1), where n is the number of compounding periods per year. The calculator also shows the effective annual rate, which accounts for the compounding frequency.

This tool is for general planning and education. It does not guarantee that any investment can achieve the calculated rate; actual returns are not guaranteed and involve risk.
