How This College GPA Calculator Works
Your cumulative GPA is the weighted average of every grade point you’ve earned across all your credit hours, including terms you’ve already completed. This calculator adds the quality points from your new courses to the quality points implied by your existing GPA and credit total, then divides by your new total credit hours.
The Formula
Cumulative GPA = (existing GPA × existing credits + sum of new grade points × new credits) / total credits. Each letter grade converts to a standard 4.0-scale value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on) before being multiplied by that course’s credit hours.
- Leave a course on ‘Not used’ if you have fewer than four new courses this term.
- Some colleges exclude repeated courses, pass/fail classes, or transfer credits differently — check your registrar’s policy for edge cases.
- This tool is for general educational planning and does not replace your official transcript.
