The Formula
Total Build Cost = Upfront Development Cost + (Monthly Maintenance Cost × Months). Total Buy Cost = Upfront/Setup Cost + (Monthly Subscription Cost × Months). The option with the lower total cost over the horizon is flagged as cheaper.
