Estimating daily formula needs

A commonly used pediatric guideline suggests full-term infants need roughly 150ml of formula per kilogram of body weight per day (about 2.5oz per pound), typically up to a practical daily maximum, spread across several feedings a day.

The formula

Total Formula Per Day = Weight (kg) × 150ml, then divided evenly by the number of feedings you enter to estimate an amount per feeding. Newborns often feed 8-12 times a day, while older infants typically feed less often but take more per feeding.

  • General guideline: ~150ml/kg/day (range commonly cited as 150-200ml/kg/day)
  • 1 fluid ounce ≈ 29.57ml
