🥎 WHIP Calculator for Baseball
Enter a pitcher’s walks, hits allowed, and innings pitched to calculate their WHIP.
What this calculator does
WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) measures how many baserunners a pitcher allows on average for every inning they throw. It’s one of the most common pitching statistics used to gauge how well a pitcher limits opponents from reaching base.
How the calculation works
The formula is WHIP = (Walks + Hits) / Innings Pitched. A lower WHIP indicates a pitcher is allowing fewer baserunners. In modern baseball, a WHIP around 1.20-1.30 is considered solid, while elite starting pitchers often post a WHIP under 1.10.
Note that innings pitched is expressed with thirds of an inning as decimals in official box scores (e.g. 6.1 innings means 6 and 1/3 innings) — for this calculator, enter innings pitched as a decimal approximation for the most accurate result.
