How much alcohol do you need for a wedding?

A widely used bar-planning rule of thumb is about one standard drink per drinking guest per hour of open bar. This calculator applies that rate to your guest count and reception length, then splits the total across wine, beer, and spirits based on your expected preferences.

How the bottle counts are figured

  • Wine: a standard 750ml bottle pours about 5 glasses.
  • Beer: counted by the can or bottle, with cases shown in packs of 24.
  • Spirits: a 750ml bottle yields about 17 standard 1.5oz shots or cocktails.

Actual consumption varies with your guests, the season, and how long cocktail hour runs, so many planners add a 10-15% buffer and check with their venue or caterer on local alcohol service rules. This tool is for general event-planning purposes only.
