What time of flight means

Time of flight is the total duration a projectile remains airborne, from the moment it is launched until it lands. It depends on the vertical component of the launch velocity, the launch height, and the acceleration of gravity.

The formula used

The calculator splits the launch velocity into vertical and horizontal components, then solves the standard vertical displacement equation for the time at which the projectile reaches the ground, including any initial launch height. When the object launches and lands at the same height, this reduces to t = 2v·sin(θ)/g.

Gravity is taken as 9.81 m/s² and air resistance is ignored. Results are for general physics education and planning purposes.
