What work and power measure
Work is the energy transferred when a force moves an object through a distance. Power is the rate at which that work is done, i.e. how quickly the energy is transferred.
The formulas used
Work is calculated as W = F·d·cos(θ), where θ is the angle between the applied force and the direction of motion (0° when the force acts directly along the direction of travel). Power is then work divided by the time taken, P = W/t.
This calculator assumes a constant force over the entire distance. For general physics education purposes.
