🍵 Tea Brewing Calculator
Get a recommended amount of loose-leaf tea, water temperature, and steep time based on the type of tea and how much water you’re using.

Good tea brewing depends on three things working together: how much tea leaf you use per amount of water, how hot the water is, and how long the leaves steep. Different tea types are processed differently, so each has its own recommended range.
This calculator uses common brewing guidelines from tea industry sources: roughly 2.5 grams of loose leaf per 8 fl oz (about 1 rounded teaspoon), scaled to your water amount, along with typical water temperatures and steep times for each tea category — for example, green and white teas use cooler water than black tea to avoid bitterness, while herbal tisanes tolerate boiling water and longer steeps.
- Black tea: near-boiling water, moderate steep time.
- Green/white tea: cooler water and shorter steeps to preserve delicate flavor.
These are general starting points — personal taste, leaf size, and specific tea varieties can shift the ideal amount and time somewhat.
