Pounds to Cups Converter
Convert a weight in pounds into cups for the ingredient you’re working with, useful when a recipe or bulk purchase lists weight but you measure by volume.
What this converter does
This tool converts a weight in pounds into cups for a chosen ingredient. It’s useful when a recipe lists volume (cups) but a package or scale gives you weight, or vice versa — especially for baking staples like flour, sugar, and rice.
How the conversion works
The calculator first converts pounds to grams (1 lb = 453.6 g), then divides by the ingredient’s typical density (grams per milliliter) to get a volume, and finally converts that volume into cups (1 cup = 236.6 ml).
Note: Ingredient density can vary depending on how tightly it’s packed or sifted — a pound of sifted flour takes up more cups than a pound of scooped, packed flour. For the most accurate baking results, weighing ingredients directly is generally preferred over volume measurement.
