How the math works
Volume is length times width times depth (with depth converted from inches to feet), giving cubic feet, then divided by 27 for cubic yards, the unit bulk soil is typically sold and delivered in. Weight is estimated by multiplying volume by an average density for your chosen soil type; actual density varies with moisture content and composition.
Because soil densities vary widely by source and moisture level, treat the weight figures as an estimate for planning delivery loads or lifting equipment, not an exact spec. This tool is for general gardening and landscaping planning purposes.
