What happens after quitting smoking

The body begins recovering from smoking very quickly after the last cigarette, and many of these changes follow a well-documented timeline published by major health organizations, starting within minutes and continuing for years.

How this calculator works

Enter your quit date to find out how many smoke-free days you have completed. The calculator compares that count against a standard recovery timeline, from heart rate normalizing within 20 minutes, to lung function improving within weeks, to long-term reductions in heart disease and stroke risk after 1, 5, and 10 years, and shows the milestone you have most recently reached and the one coming up next. If you enter your previous smoking amount and pack price, it also estimates the money saved so far.

These milestones reflect general population research and averages; individual health outcomes vary. This calculator is for general educational and motivational purposes only and is not medical advice.
