🎂 Life Expectancy Calculator
Get a rough, educational estimate of life expectancy based on general population averages and common lifestyle factors.
How this estimate is built
This calculator starts from general national average life expectancy figures at birth (roughly 76 years for men and 81 years for women in many developed countries) and adjusts that baseline up or down based on well-documented lifestyle risk factors: smoking, regular exercise, and weight category.
How the adjustments work
Smoking is associated with a substantial reduction in average lifespan in large population studies, so it subtracts several years. Regular physical activity is associated with longer average lifespan, adding a small bonus, while a sedentary lifestyle subtracts a small amount. Being overweight, obese, or significantly underweight is also associated with modestly lower average life expectancy in population data.
The result is a single ballpark number, not a personal prediction. Genetics, income, healthcare access, existing medical conditions, environment, and many other factors that this simple tool cannot capture all play a major role in actual lifespan.
