What Rate Pressure Product measures
The Rate Pressure Product (RPP), also called the double product, is a simple estimate of myocardial oxygen demand and cardiac workload. It is commonly used during exercise stress testing and cardiac rehabilitation to gauge how hard the heart is working.
The formula used
RPP is calculated simply as Heart Rate (bpm) multiplied by Systolic Blood Pressure (mmHg). Resting values are typically below 10,000, while values above 20,000-30,000 are commonly seen during moderate to vigorous exertion in healthy individuals.
This tool is for general educational and fitness-tracking purposes only. It is not a diagnostic tool; discuss any concerns about cardiac workload or exercise safety with a physician, especially if you have a history of heart disease.
