What is NOPAT?

Net Operating Profit After Tax (NOPAT) measures a company’s potential core operating profitability if it had no debt, making it useful for comparing companies with different capital structures.

The formula

NOPAT = Operating Income (EBIT) × (1 − Tax Rate). Unlike net income, NOPAT excludes the effects of financing decisions (interest expense), isolating how profitable the core business operations are.
