Incidence Rate Calculator
Calculate how quickly new cases of a condition are occurring in a population, expressed as a standardized rate.
What is an incidence rate
An incidence rate measures how frequently new cases of a condition occur in a population over a given amount of time. It’s a standard epidemiological measure used to compare how fast a condition is spreading or developing across different groups, places, or time periods.
How it’s calculated
Incidence rate equals the number of new cases divided by the total person-time at risk (population multiplied by the time period), then multiplied by a round number such as 1,000 or 100,000 so the result is easier to read and compare. This calculator assumes a roughly stable population over the period entered.
Note: this is a general educational tool. Real surveillance data often need adjustments for population changes, age-standardization, or reporting completeness, which this simple calculator does not perform.
